What can I expect in my first appointment?
You are only going to get the most out of treatment if you are working with someone you truly feel comfortable with. During our first session, we will discuss any questions or concerns you have in regard to your treatment, review informed consent, and determine if you and your therapist are the best fit for each other.
Why choose online therapy?
Studies have shown that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy, and in some cases, it has provided superior outcomes to in-person therapy. In addition to its effectiveness, online therapy also allows for:
- Convenience: Less wait times, no commute
- Sessions in an environment you feel comfortable in
- Access to specialists outside of your geographic location
- Reduced risk of transmitting or contracting communicable diseases
What do I need for online therapy sessions?
You will need access to a smart phone or computer with camera access and a strong internet connection. You will receive a link to join the secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy room prior to session.
What can I expect as a parent whose child is in therapy?
We will be in contact with you in regards to your child’s safety and emotional growth. Please be advised that if parents are separated, a court order of custody MUST be provided to us before our scheduled intake session.

What is Ketamine Assisted Therapy?
Ketamine is currently the only psychedelic legal for therapeutic use in Texas. Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) uses the psychedelic experience induced by ketamine to enhance the therapeutic process, allowing for deeper self-reflection and processing. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement (source: MAPS) Just as in any services we provide, Tree of Life Counseling Center takes a collaborative approach to your care. We combine the skills of a physician, our psychotherapist, any your inner healing abilities as guides on your healing journey. The dose of ketamine used in your journey is a cooperative decision made between you, your therapist and medical provider. Typically, the first session is a lower dose, and increased if needed at your next session.

How Do I get started with Ketamine Assisted Therapy?
If you are a current client of Tree of Life Counseling Center, simply ask your provider to explore options with you and schedule you for an history and physical with our physician.
If you are not currently a TLCC client, you will need to have a preparation session (intake) with our clinical director (Alyssa Cedillo LPC-S, RPT-S) to determine if Ketamine is the right fit for you. At this initial session you will be provided with valuable information in regard to treatment course, expectations, and explore needs.
Following your preparation session, you will be scheduled for a history and physical with our physician to determine if Ketamine services are the right medical fit for you. Your safety is our top priority. Once you have completed a H&P you will then be scheduled for your fist KAP session with one of our providers.
All clients who are seeing providers outside TLLC clinicians must have a current therapist who is capable and willing to provide integration sessions following services. A release of information will be provided to you to sign in order to ensure that you have a primary provider for support following KAP sessions or you be scheduled with one of our clinicians for follow up integration sessions.
